Economic Development Update – Frisco, TX
The Frisco Economic Development Corporation invited members of the Dallas Regional Chamber’s domestic and international economic development staff to Frisco for a city tour. Frisco is aggressively working to foster a talented workforce from within and drive innovative technology development, plus has a city planned for tourism and fun for its residents.
The Chamber staff first visited the Frisco Independent School District’s Career and Technical Education Center. Center principal and director of the Frisco CTE program, Wes Cunningham toured the group through a state of the art facility geared toward developing high school student’s path toward career success. The programs range from what we knew as “shop” back in the day (Agricultural Sciences) to drafting/ architectural training to nurse practitioner development to police and forensic investigation training.
The next stop was the North Texas Enterprise Center for Medical Technology (NTEC). NTEC is a medical technology business accelerator, meaning it provides the infrastructure and services necessary for fledgling companies to accelerate their market entry and investment capital. NTEC carefully selects companies within the medical technology space to participate in their program, including: medical instruments and devices, diagnostic equipment, medical therapeutic devices, medical monitoring equipment, and other health related products.
The tour included a driving tour through downtown, past the Central Park and planned Children’s Sci-Tech Museum and FireFighter’s Museum, Safety-Town, past an abundant array of sports facilities for both children, amateurs and professionals and much more. Dinner at Randy’s Steakhouse was such a treat. The steak was incredible and the chocolate cake was to die for. Randy himself came in to say hello.
The group ended the tour at the RoughRider’s baseball game. Frisco Mayor Maher Maso and his wife joined us for dinner and the ballgame. He spoke of a Frisco, some 9 years ago with 33,000 residents that today has surpassed 103,000 residents, has planned for this extensive growth and has implemented a vision for an innovative City.
The RoughRider’s were tasting victory until the 9th inning the Midland RockHounds came back to win 10-9. It was an unfortunate end to a great evening.
