It’s a good way to start off the post-Labor Day holiday. Forbes magazine names Dallas the number one city in the United States in which to earn a living. In a featured story Forbes says when taking into account the cost of living, strength of industry, economist’s predictions for the future, state of employment and of course salary, Dallas ranks at the top of the list.
In another Forbes story entitled World Capitals of the Future, Joel Kotkin writes “North America boasts at least three genuine emerging world-class cities: Calgary, Houston and Dallas… Houston and Dallas grew more than any other metropolitan region in the country; over the past decade, their populations have increased six times more rapidly than New York, Los Angeles, Chicago or San Francisco.” The key difference in growth he reported lies in Texas cities rising corporate power accounting for about as many Fortune firms as New York which was once home to almost a third of the nation’s largest companies.
