Live Healthy North Texas

As you might have heard, momentum for Live Healthy North Texas is building in the region and with healthcare reform in the national spotlight now is a great time to get involved.  Next week is a big week beginning with a Tuesday morning kick-off press conference on the campus of SMU to highlight the initiative that is bringing together ten chambers of commerce, the Dallas County Medical Society, the DFW Hospital Council, and the Health Industry Council of North Texas to promote wellness.

Then, on Wednesday and Thursday the Dallas Chamber will be hosting one hour informationals where the executive director of Live Healthy, Troy Vincent, will overview the program and answer questions.  (If you would like more information visit the events section of the chamber website).

In case you haven’t heard of Live Healthy, it is a 100 Day Challenge that is a team based, weight loss, and physical activity program whose purpose it to assist individuals and their teammates in making positive changes that lead to a healthier lifestyle.  It is an easy way for small companies to implement a wellness program or a tool for use in an existing program that requires very little administrative responsibility at a low cost ($20 per person, which includes a free t-shirt, magazine subscription, and personal online dashboard).  By competing in Live Healthy North Texas participants begin to form healthy habits through physical activity and improved nutrition. In this way Dallas and the North Texas Region will become forerunners in the vital race to create a healthier America.

Tammy Steele, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Risk Management at Concentra had this to say:  ”We are a big supporter of health, wellness, and colleague engagement programs, and the Live Healthy America 60-day challenge gave us an opportunity to put our own colleagues to the test.  We had expected many people to participate, but more than 1,600 employees joined together in teams across the country in an effort to get active and be healthy. Through the outstanding colleague involvement and the direction of the Live Healthy America challenge, Concentra colleagues lost a total of 8,335 pounds and logged nearly 61,000 hours of physical activity, helping to improve individual’s health and create a sense of teamwork and stronger culture of wellness.”
