Accolades from 2009

As challenging as this year has been, many people still see the Dallas/Fort Worth area as full of opportunity and potential. Dallas/Fort Worth is widely recognized as one of the top performing metropolitan areas in the country and usually sits in the top tiers of economic performance monitors and industry magazine best of lists. Take a moment to review some of the great things others had to say about us in 2009:

  • Forbes.com called Dallas/Fort Worth a World Capital of the Future.  The timing of this article couldn’t be more appropriate given that the Chamber spent much of the year presenting its benchmark global competiveness study, Global DFW. In it, Dallas/Fort Worth proved itself to be a formidable competitor, ranking us 10th out of 21 elite global metro areas.

That’s an impressive list, but it is surely not an exhaustive one. And it’s always great to hear an outsider’s opinion of our region. It helps us know who we are, how we are perceived, and the challenges we face. Plus, all the attention we have received in the past year will help us set a positive tone for 2010.

In fact, the Chamber will continue the Global DFW conversation by hosting Joel Kotkin, the author of the Forbes.com, World Capitals of the Future article, at a luncheon on March 24th 2010.  Mr. Kotkin will discuss how predicted population growth will affect Dallas/Fort Worth’s place in the emerging global environment.  It will be another interesting, and likely positive, perspective from someone living outside of our region. And don’t be surprised to see even more accolades in 2010, as Dallas/Fort Worth is expected to be a leader in the recovery from the current downturn.
