Roll Call: D. Kamica King, programs coordinator for Education

By Penny Lynch, manager, Communications

We’re rolling now, and we’ve got talent, talent and more talent.

You are in for a real treat with this edition of Roll Call.  She writes, she sings, she appears to fly through the air and she’s an advocate for improvements in public education.  It’s our pleasure to introduce to you the next famous up-and-coming star at the Chamber, Ms. Kamica King, Education program coordinator. Read on to find out more about the Life and Times of Kamica King.

Who inspires you?

My mother. She is strong, self-less, giving and wise; definitely an inspiration to me.

What makes you cringe?

Insects- I’m cringing just thinking about them!

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

That’s a good one. I’d keep it simple and call it the “The Life and Times of Kamica King.”

If you could be #1 employee but have all your coworkers dislike you, or you could be #15 employee and have all your coworkers like you, which would you choose?

This is truly a hypothetical question because life is more of a mixed bag.  Some people will naturally like you, while others, for whatever reason, may not. I also see the answer to this question as situational. Our natural inclination is to want to be the best and in certain instances, being #1 is the way to go despite what others may think. On the other hand, in a team environment where collaboration is necessary to get things done, being # 1 doesn’t sound like the most productive or healthy work environment, so being #15 would apply.

What’s something your team may not know about you?

I’ve talked about music therapy, but they may not know that I am also a singer and songwriter whose venues and events have included Carnegie Hall and the US Open.

What does education mean to you?

Education is opportunity. Education means lifelong learning, and education is passion.

What’s your favorite Chamber story?

I would have to say the World Series bet between our President adn CEO Jim Oberwetter and President of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, Dick Fleming. Although we didn’t win, it was a fun and friendly wager, and now we have an endless supply of Tums! To learn more about the wager, click here.
