Roll Call: The Interns of the DRC

Summer is busy, and so are our summer interns!  Over the last few months they’ve been busy researching, writing, answering phones, creating and campaigning.   Want to learn more about the fantastic college and high school students we’ve had the pleasure of working with this summer?  Read on!

Benjamin Rubin

Where are you from?
I was born and raised a Texan! I am originally from Garland but moved to Dallas prior to beginning grade school.

What college do you attend?
I am a proud Hoosier at Indiana University!

What’s your favorite past time?
I grew up in a family where the Texas Rangers’ games were constantly on TV and baseball was a frequented topic during family dinner. Definitely America’s Favorite Pastime, baseball.

Who or what are you most proud of?
I received a coveted position on IU’s Student Organization Ethics Board at the beginning of my sophomore year. I take immense pride in my position as a board member. The board is used to hold students to high moral and ethical standards.

What are your words of wisdom for the next group of interns?
Make sure to attend as many events as possible! These are great opportunities to network with business professionals from all over, connect with Chamber members from different departments, and become immersed in various business environments.

What impact has the Chamber had on you personally or professionally?
The Chamber has taught me the importance of interacting with your co-workers and establishing strong business relationships with the members.

What has been the best part of your internship with the Dallas Regional Chamber?
The most interesting part of my internship was getting to see how all of the Chamber’s committees and team members work toward a common goal, despite having many diverse backgrounds.

Chris Heinlen

Where are you from?
Dallas, Texas

What college do you attend?
Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)

What’s your favorite past time?
Hanging out with my friends, going to movies, doing whatever is fun

Who or what are you most proud of?
Being accepted into one of the top art colleges in the country

What are your words of wisdom for the next group of interns?
Take advantage of your time here to expand your skill set and make connections for the future.

What impact has the Chamber had on you personally or professionally?
This internship has allowed me to reflect on my artistic process in a business setting and because of my time here I have developed new ways to approach projects and interact with the people I am working with.

What has been the best part of your internship with the Dallas Regional Chamber?
Actually finishing [my big project,] the Innovation Assessment.

Delia Cruz Nochebuena

Where are you from?
Dallas, Texas

What school do you attend?
I am currently on my last year of high school! However, I hope to attend Yale University when I graduate and eventually earn a doctorate degree in Spanish literature.

What’s your favorite past time?
My favorite past time is practicing ballet as well as other forms of dance and shopping!

Who or what are you most proud of?
I am very proud of my family, despite many obstacles and setbacks we have managed to keep our happiness and pursue more challenges.

What are your words of wisdom for the next group of interns?
The next group of interns should know that you must have a sense of humor to be here as well as some ambition. Everyone at the chamber has a great work ethic and continually commits themselves to doing the best they can even in the simplest tasks. Therefore, challenge yourself to do your absolute best every day!

What impact has the Chamber had on you personally or professionally?
The chamber has impacted me both personally and professionally. I have learned to be more responsible with my time and also learned to truly appreciate the impact the chamber has in the Dallas region. Personally, I have been impacted to see how everyone at the chamber authentically cares for the Dallas citizens and the future of Dallas.

What has been the best part of your internship with the Dallas Regional Chamber?
Perhaps one of the best parts of my internship is working with people who are very friendly and can make me laugh in an instant. I must also admit that I loved how I was able to genuinely contribute to the chamber and how I was treated as a valuable piece to all the work the staff does.

 Jayant Kurvari

Where are you from?
I am from Plano, Texas. (Hometown – Carrollton, Texas)

What school do you attend?
I go to Plano West Senior High School as a junior.

What’s your favorite past time?
My favorite pastime would be to hang out with friends, go swimming, or playing any fun sport.

Who or what are you most proud of?
My scoutmaster is my role model because he wakes up really early to go to work and then he drives back after work is done, driving an average of two hours or more each way. He has also helped to keep me in Boy Scouts and compels everyone to get Eagle. I’m proud of him because of what he does for the troop.

What are your words of wisdom for the next group of interns?
My advice: “Work hard and finish your assigned responsibilities on-time and you will have a nice time at the Dallas Regional Chamber.”

What impact has the Chamber had on you personally or professionally?
The Dallas Regional Chamber has impacted me professional because I have gleaned new knowledge about how businesses interact with each other and how employees within a business work with each other to get a specific task done.

What has been the best part of your internship with the Dallas Regional Chamber?
The best part of my internship with the Dallas Regional Chamber was getting to talk with the head of the departments at the Dallas Regional Chamber. Also, another fun part was doing the different projects of the sub-sections. Those had unique styles, which made it more interesting!

John Keith

Where are you from?
Costa Rica

What college do you attend?
Southern Methodist University

What’s your favorite past time?
Golf

Who or what are you most proud of?
I would say that both my parent. They constantly show me that you can really get whatever or wherever you want if you just work hard enough.

What are your words of wisdom for the next group of interns?
Be ready to help out with all sorts of things you do not expect

What impact has the Chamber had on you personally or professionally?
It has showed me the great deal of economic activity going on in the region. Being from outside the US one never hears much about DFW, but I’ve come to understand the great impact this region has in the economy

What has been the best part of your internship with the Dallas Regional Chamber?
Getting to understand the importance of the chamber of commerce for a region, as it promotes networking and a better business climate. Also under the idea of economic development, understanding how to target those industries or companies that have the biggest potential when it comes to relocating to DFW.
