Each year, after the kids have returned to school, Dallas ISD invites adults to return to school too, through its Principal for a Day program. Mark your calender for October 9th and join your fellow business and community leaders for a firsthand look into the daily operations of a Dallas ISD school as you shadow a Principal and partake in other educational experiences for a day. A collaboration between the Dallas Regional Chamber and Dallas ISD, Principal for a Day is presented by Capital One Bank and also serves as a great stepping stone for future collaboration with the District.
Ken Malcolmson, Regional CEO of Humana, shares his experience as a principal for a day last year.
“As the son a former public school Principal and Administrator, I was intrigued by the invitation to be a “Principal for a Day” last year. The innovative program presented by DISD and the DRC afforded a cadre of community leaders the opportunity to gain a firsthand perspective on what happens in our public schools. I was fortunate to be assigned to serve side-by-side with Principal Mark Ramirez at Molina High School in southwest Dallas, where I was exposed to a disciplined, engaged and spirited student body. I can truly say it was an enlightening and encouraging day that gave me great hope for the future. I eagerly look forward to volunteering again this year and I encourage you to do so as well. Based on my experience last year, I’m quite confident you will be rewarded for your commitment of time.”
This year, in addition to an honorary reception held the afternoon of October 9th for all Principals and their Principals for a Day, an orientation session featuring a District welcome by Superintendent Miles, will be held prior to the event date.
