Our Lunch with Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst

Today, I had lunch with Lt. Governor David Dewhurst.   No, it wasn’t a one-on-one session where we commented on the upcoming holiday season before discussing our concerns for water and education.  We were joined by nearly 200 of our closest friends, but I think everyone who joined us for lunch at the Fairmont would agree it was still a productive and informative meeting.

During the event, Dallas Regional Chamber members heard a previewing the upcoming legislative session.  Lt. Governor Dewhurst reminded thecrowd that the “Texas model” is working well for our state.  Low taxes, a growing economy, and government that gets out of the way is all part of what makes our state the number one place to do business, said Governor Dewhurst.  He did note, however, that even with all the things Texas has done right, we still have a lot of work to do. Water is Everything: Governor renews drought emergency proclamation

Counties across Texas continue to suffer the debilitating economic impact of the ongoing drought, leading to Governor’s Perry’s renewal of a drought emergency proclamation.

To highlight the many ways that our economy and public health rely on an adequate supply of clean, affordable water, The H2O for Texas Coalition has produced a new, social media-friendly video entitled, In Texas water is everything.

Trinity River Corridor Project Update

On Oct. 4 the Chamber hosted a presentation on the Trinity River Corridor Project by City of Dallas Assistant City Manager Jill Jordan and Fort Worth District Army Corps of Engineers Commander Charles Klinge. Attendees included members of the Chamber’s Public Policy Advisory Council, Water Policy Committee, and Transportation Advisory Council and representatives from 10 North Texas chambers of commerce.   During the event, they announced that the Corps has awarded the contract for the Dallas Floodway System’s Upper Chaing of Wetlands.  Click here to see the news release about the contract.

Congressional Forum Participants Talk Tough Decisions

Friday, August 10, the Dallas Regional Chamber hosted four members of the North Texas Congressional Delegation during the organization’s annual Congressional Forum.  During the event, Republican Reps. Pete Sessions of Dallas, Joe Barton of Arlington, Ken Marchant of Coppell and Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Dallas, spoke about tough decisions, health care, spending cuts and what they hoped would happen during the November elections.

Learn More about IP: Watch Under Secretary Kappos’ Keynote at the Patent Issue Forum

Last Thursday, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office David Kappos, spoke to the business community during the Chamber’s Patent Issue Forum.  During the event, held Aug. 9 at the Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas, attendees engaged with the IP law community and heard best practices from entrepreneurs.

DRC Hosts U.S. Congressional District 33 Candidate Forum

Democratic candidates Domingo Garcia and Marc Veasey provided their distinct perspective on the critical issues facing our country and North Texas during a Candidate Forum hosted by the Dallas Regional Chamber (DRC) on Friday, June 29 at the DRC Conference Center.
