Economic Development Update

By Erica Flores, Coordinator, Economic Development

The Dallas Regional Chamber’s Strategic Plan, launched in 2010, identifies the DRC’s primary role: economic development.

Together, we will lead the Dallas region to become the most economically prosperous region — and the most desirable place to live and work — in the United States.

The DRC’s economic development team works vigorously to help support that mission.  Each month we’ll provide an update on these initiatives and projects that support our strategic plan goals. Continue reading

Guest Blog: A New Source of Jobs for North Texas

ImageWritten By: Lane Sorgen, General Manager, South Central District, Microsoft Corp.

One of the biggest job generators for North Texas is a resource that we can’t really touch or even see—but when we reach for it, dollars start pouring into businesses all across the Metroplex and jobs spring up as a result. That’s what a new study from Microsoft says about “the cloud.”

If you own a business, you’re likely to understand how the cloud can save you money. By relying on technology infrastructure and applications that are housed in the cloud—instead of in your own server room—you avoid many of the costs related to maintaining equipment, buying more servers when your company grows, keeping an internal network up and running, and constantly buying upgrades for software. With the cloud, your technology is always up to date, and you can expand easily as you need more capability. Continue reading

Guest Blog: Telework Takes Hold in Dallas, According to Microsoft Survey

Author: Lane Sorgen, General Manager, South Central Enterprise District , Microsoft

For businesses, Dallas boasts a host of competitive advantages, including a central location, low cost of living and a skilled workforce. My Leadership Dallas Experience

By Mitchell Savage, Aperia Solutions, Leadership Dallas Class of 2012

John Quincy Adams, knew something about leadership.

Aside from being our sixth President of the United States, he also served as a Congressman, an American diplomat, and Secretary of State, all during times of spectacular evolution.  He negotiated to draw the American border with Canada, secured Florida from Spanish possession, and drafted the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812.

Leadership Dallas Class Day with Bill Lively

It was also John Quincy Adams who said “If your actions inspire other to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, then you are a leader.”

Seeing a greater dream for our beloved home of Dallas, learning, doing, and becoming more is the essence of the Leadership Dallas experience.  It is no coincidence that most alumni report that most of their best friends, associates, and business partners have emerged from their own class and from being active in the alumni group.

Leadership Dallas is an essential growth and discovery experience for anyone committed to making Dallas the most economically prosperous region, and the most desirable place to live and work in the United States. Continue reading
